Automotive EMC Tester For Low Voltage Robustness | LVTGO-VBS

LVTGO-VBS | Low Voltage EMC Standards Tester

The LVTGO-VBS automotive EMC tester helps you to develop electrical systems that are more robust, and that achieve the necessary industry compliance/EMC standards.

The system does this by delivering sequences of voltage waveforms that are close to known failure values, and that can be parameterised, randomised and repeated.

It is able to simulate the effects of engine cranking, harness degradation, conducted noise and long-term battery drain, and includes profiles for standards such as ISO 16750, CI265 and LV124.

So, the LVTGO-VBS helps to identify more issues with prototype control modules throughout the vehicle development cycle.

What was key to us was not only were we able to capture what was happening using existing equipment on the electrical system in terms of the power supply, but we were able to replay that faithfully through the LVTGO-VBS, meaning that we were able to replicate what was happening on the vehicle electrical supply through the LVTGO-VBS on our control system.

Technical overview:

Low voltage testing rangeHave you ever had reports of unexplained intermittent functional errors from your customers, and would you like to track these down? LVTGO-VBS units are aimed at test and qualification engineers looking to test low voltage test standards and to improve overall system robustness.

LVTGO-VBS is a range of low voltage battery simulation test units for EMC standards and robustness testing.

Available with a mature platform of hardware and software out-of-the-box, along with cables and interfaces, the LVTGO-VBS is up and running in no time.

Windows software is provided to monitor and control the tests using a range of pre-defined profiles or via your own captured data.

EMC Standards tester 3U variantWhen looking to test electronic components, such as control units, the ability to create parametrised voltage profiles for testing is essential – the LVT range is supplied with many pre-defined profiles to meet standards requirements.

If you want the very best test coverage, you should test at all stages of the design process. The LVT range is designed to test from prototype design stages right through to complete vehicle tests, using either standards or your own voltage profiles.

What if you could then add predictably random variations to allow you to ‘window in’ on areas such as low battery voltages or engine cranking waveforms?

Don’t risk your brand reputation using one-off in-house test boxes: rely on a system proven in the field to find these failures.

The LVTGO-VBS can help you to re-create a wide range of vehicle battery phenomena:

Fast transient burst noise

Fast Transient Burst Noise animated voltage waveformThese waveforms are to simulate intermittent battery terminals or to create the test formally known as the ‘rusty file test’. This is required for standards including CI 265 and 260.

Random cranking profiles

Vehicle cranking animated voltage waveformThese waveforms are used to simulate voltage perturbations due to engine starting, known as ‘cranking’. Their predictable, random nature can help window in on supply issues.

Constant slope ramps

Constant slope animated voltage waveformThese waveforms are used to meet JLR standard EMC-CS-2010, known as constant slope ramps or waveform C. The lower voltage is stepped around a window to look for power supply issues.

Simple ramp up-down

Ramp up and down animated voltage waveformThese waveforms are to simulate different rates of voltage affecting the supply, such as a battery going flat when a vehicle has been left standing. Adjusting the rate to as slow as many hours or days is possible.

Captured CSV waveforms

Captured csv animated voltage waveformIf you have waveform data you are trying to reproduce, for example captured from an oscilloscope or from a spreadsheet based on a formula, then importing the data as CSV voltage-time pairs is possible with the LVTGO-VBS.

CI 260 voltage dropouts

CI260 animated voltage waveformThe waveforms are to simulate the affects of very fast bursts of noise such as that generated by nearby relays switching. Using the micro-cutout version of the LVTGO-VBS, you can create a series of two-step pulses as low as a few microseconds.
